Response to government update on the hospital redevelopment

Design of front of new Whipps Cross

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy recently asked the government for an update on the national level decision-making process for the scheme-specific business case for the redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital.

Health Minister Will Quince responded, stating that “decisions on specific business cases for schemes which are expected to be funded after 2025 are dependent on the approval of the programme wide business case.”

In response a spokesperson for the Whipps Cross Redevelopment said:

“Given the pace of progress that we continue to experience in relation to the national New Hospital Programme, earlier this month we said that we could see no way in which construction of the new hospital could begin before 2025 at the earliest.

“The delays and ongoing uncertainty are disappointing. However, we continue to work closely with national colleagues to secure decisions as quickly as possible, so that we can get on and deliver a new state-of-the-art hospital that staff and the people of north east London deserve.”
